The history of the Hauller family began in 1776, when François-Joseph Hauller, first of a great master cooper lineage, settles in Dambach-La-Ville, to establish his cooperage workshop. By the end of the 20th century, this activity expanded into viticulture and wine, which then became the family’s core business. Today, rigor, precision and knowhow are key words of Famille Hauller.

Louis Hauller

From cooperage to viticulture

Son of Léon Hauller, the last master cooper of his family, Louis Hauller was the first to expand the company’s core business into viticulture in the 1970’s. He then produced his first bottles which he sold directly to the consumer during wine fairs throughout France.

Claude Hauller

From independent producer to winemaker-merchant, a contemporary vision of Alsace wine.

In 1990, Claude Hauller joined the company, enabling his father Louis to focus on the vineyard and the winemaking. Claude developed partnerships on a regional scale, and later, on a national scale.

Together, they managed in 25 years to enlarge the wine estate’s production, while often being rewarded by dedicated contests and guides (concours agricole de Paris, Guide Hachette, Concours des Meilleurs Riesling du Monde…).

Ludovic et Guillaume Hauller

A fresh impetus

As of now, both of Claude and Laurence's sons -Ludovic and Guillaume- have decided to bring their skills to the family estate.

Guillaume is an epicurean and passionate about viticulture. His brother Ludovic is a musician and makes the wines of Famille Hauller shine throughout the world.

Together, they are shaping the history of Famille Hauller in their own way, with their passion for wine, to perpetuate and develop the business' activity and maybe, one day, pass it on to their children.

The love of a job well done

A willingness to always go further is a valuable trait displayed by the previous 8 generations of winemakers, making the estate into a rigorous, proactive and dynamic company.

“Only a few families know how to respect traditions, develop a competency, and have the willingness to imagine and surpass themselves.” Louis Hauller

Unique terroirs

Dambach-La-Ville : The heart of Alsace

Located halfway between Strasbourg and Colmar, and 10 minutes away by car from Haut-Koenigsbourg Castle, Dambach-La-Ville is one of the biggest wine village in Alsace.

Wines from Dambach-La-Ville, and particularly its Frankstein Grand Cru are world known for their precision, elegance and fineness.

A mosaic of unique in the world terroirs

Protected by the Vosges mountains which results in one of the lowest rainfall in France (500 to 600 mm of water per year), the vineyard in Alsace benefits from a sunny and warm semi-continental climate. The Famille Hauller vineyards extend over twenty hectares around Dambach-La-Ville, and over seven hectares in Soultzmatt, in the famous Vallée Noble (which stands for “Noble Valley” in English).

As Famille Hauller has always prioritised production control, the wine estate chose in 2016 to expand its vineyards to benefit from Alsatian terroirs.

To take advantage of the purity of the granitic terroirs of Dambach-La-Ville and Blienschwiller, the depth of the clayey soils of Epfig, and the power of the limestone and the sandstone from Soultzmatt.

A range of various vines

Alsace has a multitude of grape varieties which allow numerous complementary food and wine pairing. While Riesling is master of our vineyard in Dambach-La-Ville, Gewurztraminer reigns in the south, in Soultzmatt.

Famille Hauller wishes to express the uniqueness of each terroir through its favourite grape variety. No contrivance or tricks, only the identity of each place transmitted through the personality of each grape variety.
